TRANSPORT ECONOMICS


GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE

During this course student will gain understanding of basics for efficient management of transport companies (organizational and legal aspects, management models, economics and costs, calculation methods, transport services prices assessment methods, brake even analysis, marketing principles of transport services), investment decision making methods (different static and dynamic methods for investment in transport rolling stock and transport infrastructure) and basic methods and tools for strategic planning (including business plan as integration of all gained knowledge).

 

COURSE CONTENTS

The course will cover the following topics:

  • Basics of transport economics (macro and micro economic aspects of transport)
  • Organizational and legal aspects of transport companies (private companies, public companies, public-private partnership)
  • Economics of transport company: costs, depreciation, calculation methods, break-even analysis of transport processes
  • Practical examples (cases) for business decisions of transport companies
  • General business performance indexes and transport performance indexes (e.g. load factor)
  • Finances and financial analysis of the transport company
  • Investment decisions in the field of transport (financing, static and dynamic evaluation methods of investment projects, investment decisions)
  • Basics of strategic planning in transport sector
  • Portfolio, SWOT, Life cycle and other analytical methods.
  • Business plan
