SUSTAINABLE CONCEPTS OF BUILDING DESIGN


GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE

The course integrates different aspects of sustainable building design; architectural & bioclimatic design, structural design, use of active technical systems within the building energy concept. The aim of the course is to qualify the students for the analysis and design of sustainable buildings. The seminar work is based on a case study is different buildings (residential multy-storey building, public building, office building ) considering analysis of new-built or renovated building. Detailed knowledge on sustainable and complex building renovation integrating different renovation tools is gained through the work on a case study. The energy balance simulations are carried out to analyse and improve the level of energy concept of new built or renovated building. The emphasis of the course is on design of the new built or renovated building within the aspects of sustainability.

The course will cover the following topics:

  • Sustainable concept – energy concept
  • Building operation from the viewpoint of energy use
  • Legislation (directives, rules, standards)
  • Energy efficient building design
  • Climatic concepts
  • Energy concepts (heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting)
  • Aspects of sustainability (environmental, social, economy)
  • Sustainable renovation of existing energy inneficient buildings
  • Software tools for energy simulation
  • Parametric analysis – influence of variable parameters on building’s energy balance
