GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE

During the course, the students will acquire fundamental theoretical and practical knowledge of the process and the methodology for the planning and design of public building in a way that does not satisfy the aesthetics only, but also the technical and functional requirements. Further, the students would understand the role and the importance of space when planning a public building and be able to include the knowledge from different fields of architect’s profession into the architectural planning and design of public buildings.

COURSE CONTENTS

  • Analysis of contemporary trends in designing public building
  • Analysis of relationship between public buildings and public space (development potentials and shortages of public plots)
  • Conceptualizing and programming of public building (to find a solution for a case on a chosen location) positioning within a building plot
  • Public building typologies
  • Construction and technology systems (variations)
  • Functional elements defined within a public building
  • Public building concept on a chosen location
  • 3D graphic representation (model and 3D computer graphics)
